1996年的天煞﹣地球反擊戰相隔已久的續集終於命名為 Independence Day: Resurgence（天煞﹣地球反擊戰2，暫譯），故事將會發生於2016年，人類社會經過上集一戰後，學習贏得的外星科技，並成立了由 David Levinson（Jeff Goldblum）為局長的地球太空保衛部，防範外星人再度侵襲。
